Episode Description
Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight is a marathon. The struggle is especially challenging for individuals living with ADHD symptoms that sabotage their best intentions. Impulsivity may lead directly to Twinkies or Doritos, instead of nutrient-dense fruit and whole grains, at the same time that emotional overwhelm beckons soothing carbs—pasta or potatoes or bread. Studies show that having ADHD is correlated with a higher risk of obesity and greater weight-loss struggles. In order to lose weight in a healthy, sustainable way, it must be done through an ADHD lens.
Listen and learn from Roberto Olivardia, Ph.D., about:
- Why people with ADHD are at higher risk for obesity
- The challenges of losing weight for people with ADHD
- Cognitive self-talk strategies for losing pounds
- Smart supermarket shopping strategies
- Mindful eating approaches
- The importance of accountability in achieving and maintaining weight loss
- Parenting tips for helping your child eat well, exercise, and maintain a healthy weight
- The importance of good nutrition in optimizing your brain and weight
