While 12-Step programs are the most well-known, they are not specifically the *most* effective treatment. SMART Recovery is a science/CBT-based approach which has, in studies, proven to be equally effective, and without the aversion that some 12-Step folks have for medically-aided treatment (including treatments for depression, anxiety, or ADHD).
I don’t mean to bash 12-Step — in fact, some people find both programs to be even more effective together than one or the other might on its own — but I don’t want to see someone give up on recovery because they’ve been led to believe that’s the *only* route there.
